The Innocence of Children

My big cousin came round last weekend to show us his 'bolanle' car as he called it not 'tokunboh' o!, He acquired it after using a jalopy 'sokinso' blue ?sedan. He got it shortly after his wedding and his first child turned ten on childrens day so you can imagine how old the car is and when he bought it, it was a tokunboh!

Anyway this his old car obviously had loads of problems, even when it was moving along a newly tarred road it belched petrol fumes as if it was moving uphill. His poor children were obviously embarrased by the contraption their father insisted on calling a car and with not a few protestations urged him to buy another car. When each day passed without the presence of a new car in their house, they came to the conclusion that their father could not part with the tin car and loved to put his family through untold hardship and suffering.

Their protests though loud enough did not hit home until one day my cousin went to the bank to withdraw the sum of 15,000naira. He was accompanied by his 7year old son who saw him put the bundle of notes in his pocket. On their way home they passed several car lots where cars are sold and in his innocence asked his father to stop so they could buy a car, his fathers response was to ask him where he would get that kind of money to buy a car. The little boy said "daddy shebi you have just collected money".

His father could not get him to understand that 15,000naira cannot buy a car. His son concluded with the words 'daddy you do not want to but a car'

All that is history now his chilren are no longer upset with their dad even though it took so long to redeem his image, thanks to his 'bolanle car'!!!!!!!!!!

  1. May God give us the heart of a child.
The innocence that can be compared to none.
In our everyday life - from living to eating to worshiping God... whatever we do and to avoid hypertension - May we act like children :)
Sometimes I can't help but laugh at kids - 15k for a car.... yams!
I am happy ur cousin represented at last. And final prayer - May God help this country and lift us out of leadership problem that we may stop celebrating Tokunbo cars :)
