Sleep deprived ramblings

Tonight is one of those nights when sleep is elusive:( I don’t want to go to bed and the bed does not look attractive enough to make me want to go lie down! So here I am blogging. I had thought that I would not blog for another 2 weeks but some nights the spirit of blogging comes upon me and I cannot resist:) I wish I could say I had something witty to write about but I do not. I wish I had something profound to write about but I cannot grant you the favor of some cerebral company. This post will probably be a potpourri of my thoughts over the last couple of days! I have one terrible habit, I do not forget promises made. Its bad I think because I tend to view people who promise and fail to stand by their word to have committed some grievous crime:) Don’t blame me, I only hope that I try as much to keep my word to the same degree as those who disappoint me! Read about a man who killed his wife! I was aghast. What would possess a human being to dismember his wife whose only obvi

The Nigerian and his O's!

If you are Nigerian the chances are that you say O! after many statements you make while speaking. My roommate who is Kenyan pointed it out to me yesterday:) I could only smile, I thought I did not say O! but after speaking for a few minutes I realised that I had just ended one sentence with O! O! Is for emphasis, its a way of making sure your words are heard and understood. Its the way you recognize that the next person is going with the flow of words. Speaking without using O's derives the words of some sweetness that cannot be tangibly assessed. There is something dry, foreign and starchy about speaking without interjecting with O's and pouring them lavishly to garnish a discussion! He suffered O! It is true O! What do you mean jor! He is coming O! Hide it under the table O! All the sentences carry an extra meaning implying a depth of suffering, a veracity of the tale, an entreaty to explain the hidden, a cry of warning etc! O!, Jor!, To!, Kai, Ha, Haba,  and many othe

Three weeks of thanks!

Missed last Monday's thanksgiving post so I'm squashing three weeks worth into one:) The first ten were written over a week ago! 346-360 Thankful for an outlet! Ever wanted to scream out loud and had no where to go to scream without people wondering what was wrong with you? I don't scream, I write! I am thankful I have an outlet for my thoughts, screams, joys and blessings! Thankful for the future! There is a whole wide world waiting to be conquered:) And even if all the new lands have been discovered, there is always something new to be done! And even if its death around the corner there is a whole new world out there! Thankful for friends who understand. I have a very good friend who I can call anytime I want to talk. I called her today and even though I did not have much to say she knew I just wanted company and she indulged me. She kept me company when I needed it and our conversation ended with her telling me to call anytime I needed to talk. She has much more p

Goodbye Blogspot?

I apologize for those who tried to access my blog and have not been able to do so over the last week! I have toyed increasingly with the idea of stopping blogging, switching platforms or starting a new blog. At the end of the day I came up with the decision to switch platforms. For the sake of continuity I will still be putting up posts on both blogspot and my new blogging platform wordpress! My new address is www.olaoluwatomi.wordpress.com . I am not sure what direction my blogging might take, but I am thinking up better ways to be a better blogger. I have blogged consistently since 2007 though my first post was in 2005 and I think I have become stuck in a rut. I want to see my blogging improve and not just be a way to churn out 'run of the mill' posts. I'll be taking a break for the next few weeks because I have a lot on my hands and hopefully during this hiatus I can work on bringing new life to this blog. So please bear with me as I try to move on in a new direction

5 things I am thankful for today!

341-345 An unexpected gift that took me by surprise! How many of you love gifts? I certainly do, especially the ones that take you by surprise. I am so grateful! Friends in high places and friends in many places!:) The first part is a wish! I wish I could say I had friends in all the important offices worldwide, who knows, time will tell. But I am glad I have friends in very many places. It makes for excellent company and of course warm hearths when my feet take me to the distant parts of the globe:)  I am so blessed to have such good friends. Hope- Over the last couple of weeks, I have been living on a good dose of hope. If Hope had died, I am not sure I would be typing this blog post. Lets just say I am grateful for hope that gives you a hand while crossing the bridge of faith. Family- I love my family to bits! I am sure they love me too!:) Great stories- Been reading a few more stories by Lucy Maud Montgomery and I can tell you she wrote beautiful stories. Been thinking of

TwO GoOd ReAdS!

I have fallen in love with many blogs in Blogsville and each time I come across a really awesome post I tell myself I need to write about them. But how many of you understand the havoc Mr. Procrastination has had on our lives? Today I have decided to keep him away and so I'll be talking about two awesome blogs I have come across and visit regularly! 1. Chinny's World is a blog by a very talented young lady who tells stories and ties together everyday happenings in her life. She writes using her wonderful gift of humor, weaving in didactic notes and presents for your reading pleasure tasty morsels of words! Her words are like silver apples set in gold! Before you think I am exaggerating head here to read her latest post on how to (how not to) play the cards life deals you! 2. The next blog is written by Steve, a teacher who coaches basketball and teaches the bible at a christian school in Houston. He writes witty stories about the lives that have been placed in his hands an

Blogspot Issues!

I have always been loyal to blogspot but these days I am increasingly more frustrated with the goings on. I rejoiced a few weeks ago when blogspot crashed and I did not lose any of my posts- finished or in progress though I sympathised with those who did. But little did I know that my rejoicing was premature. Since the crash I have been unable to sign into blogger and post comments in my own blog and other blogspot blogs especially those blogs that do not have the anonymous option where I can write my own name and give my url! Then I had problems uploading pictures, which hopefully has resolved, I cannot upload videos! It makes me want to pull out my hair:) Anyway, this is an apology for those of you whose comments I have not replied (maybe one or two), Im guessing people are busier in their real lives than in blogsville! I do hope you have not had issues trying to comment like I have. Send me a mail if you have! Check out my profile page for my addy! Wishing everyone a spanking

The End of a good thing!

Image
I wonder who came up with the phrase all good things must come to an end! Its pretty obvious isnt't it? A day dawns bright, beautiful, the sun shines gloriously and warm upon the earth, the clouds puff themselves out to give cover to the people who scurry like ants beneath, shielding them from the friendly rays of the scorching sun. But no matter how wickedly the sun shines, it must surely set! The days and seasons were appointed to give order! Can you imagine the sun shining every day of the year and never going down! Its absurd! What am I on about? Nothing really:) Just felt like spilling out a blog post but not having enough steam to write something really awesome! Do enjoy the pictures of the view from my bedroom window though!

An excellent model of healthcare!

TED VIDEO* My dreams of sustainable, affordable and quality healthcare for those who can least afford it are not just dreams, they have been tried and tested and put to good use in many areas of the world. My brother-in-law sent me this video, it is just one example of such a model. What I particularly like about the video is that everything is locally sourced. I am not a fan of health camps run by well meaning and good intentioned people who live great jobs and careers to come to work in a developing country for a couple of weeks and jet back to their 'lives' without seeing the outcome of their good works, leaving less able health care workers deal with complications that will arise! I am all for ideas arising from within, development of local capacity, community ownership and community participation. Another thing that struck me is the huge chasm between the costs of running the same outfit in the UK and in India. Many things are responsible for that but the underlying

The blight of anonymous commenter's!

I have been rolling in stitches blog trawling! The posts that generate a lot of comments are predictable. Anything media worthy is sure to generate a lot of posts. The only thing that made my laughter subdued was   the way the comments sometimes degenerated into name calling, written abuse and downright untenable behaviour and most of the commenter's hid behind the title   ‘anonymous’! In as much as I believe in freedom of speech, I believe that everyone who makes a comment must be willing able to stand by that comment especially if you are expressing personal views or making recommendations. Why hide behind a cloak of anonymity? Its utterly cowardly for you to ‘trash posts’, ‘name call’ and then not have an online persona to back up your words. It just goes to show how lily livered such people can be. Luckily, I have only had the blight of an anonymous commenter during one of my earlier blog posts. I then made the decision to be able to screen comments before they could be publ
